RESPONSIBILITY FOR ONE’S ACTIONS AND DEEDS
IGNORANCE OF THE LAW DOES NOT MAKE ONE FREE FROM RESPONSIBILITY
- Lev.5:17 If a person sins, and commits any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of YHWH, though he does not know it, yet he is guilty and shall bear his iniquity.
Rom.2:12 All who have sinned outside the framework of Torah will die outside the framework of Torah and all who have sinned within the framework of Torah will be judged by Torah.
Jn.3:18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of YHWH.
UNINTENTIONAL SIN (DUE TO A MISTAKE)
- Lev.5:15 If a person commits a trespass, and sins unintentionally in regard to the holy things of YHWH, then he shall bring to YHWH as his trespass offering a ram without blemish from the flocks, with your valuation in shekels of silver according to the shekel of the sanctuary, as a trespass offering. And he shall make restitution for the harm that he has done in regard to the holy thing, and shall add one-fifth to it and give it to the priest. So the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering, and it shall be forgiven him.
Similar to this it talks about trespassing against one’s neighbour: (Lev.6:2-7). Refer to the Second Part of the book, chapter III ‘Responsibility in front of one’s brother’. If someone is guilty against that which is devoted to YHWH, and if one has sinned against his neighbour, then he should be fined with the amount of what was sworn falsely increased by one fifth.
- Num.15:22 If you sin unintentionally, and do not observe all these commandments which YHWH has spoken to Moses – all that YHWH has commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day YHWH gave commandment and onward throughout your generations – then it will be, if it is unintentionally committed, without the knowledge of the congregation, that the whole congregation shall offer one young bull as a burnt offering, as a sweet aroma to YHWH, with its grain offering and its drink offering, according to the ordinance, and one kid of the goats as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement for the whole congregation of the children of Israel, and it shall be forgiven them, for it was unintentional; they shall bring their offering, an offering made by fire to YHWH, and their sin offering before YHWH, for their unintended sin. It shall be forgiven the whole congregation of the children of Israel and the stranger who dwells among them, because all the people did it unintentionally.
1Tim.1:12 I thank the one who has given me strength, the Messiah Yeshua, that he considered me trustworthy enough to put me in his service, even though I used to be a man who blasphemed and persecuted and was arrogant! But I received mercy because I had acted in unbelief, not understanding what I was doing (out of ignorance).
Act.3:14 You rejected this holy, righteous one and instead demanded the release of a murderer. You killed the author of life, but YHWH raised him to life. And we are witnesses of this fact! “The name of Yeshua has healed this man – and you know how lame he was before. Faith in Yeshua’ name has caused this healing before your very eyes. And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance (not aware of what you were doing), as did your leaders also.
Act.17:30 YHWH overlooked people’s former ignorance about these things, but now he commands everyone everywhere to turn away from idols and turn to him. For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.
- Num.15:27 And if a person sins unintentionally, then he shall bring a female goat in its first year as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement for the person who sins unintentionally, when he sins unintentionally before YHWH, to make atonement for him and it shall be forgiven him. You shall have one law for him who sins unintentionally, for him who is native-born among the children of Israel and for the stranger who dwells among them.
1Jn.5:16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death (unintentionally), he will ask and YHWH will give him life for those whose sinning does not lead to death (unintentionally).
Lk.23:34 Yeshua said, “Father, forgive them; they don’t understand what they are doing.”
Mtt.5:19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
INTENTIONAL SIN (BY IMPUDENT HAND IF LITERALLY)
- Num.15:30 But the person who does anything presumptuously (intentionally), whether he is native-born or a stranger, that one brings reproach on YHWH, and he shall be cut off from among his people. Because he has despised the word of YHWH, and has broken His commandment, that person shall be completely cut off. His guilt shall be upon him.
In the book ‘Numbers,’ there is a situation described where the violation of the Sabbath was committed with a ‘bold hand,’ indicating a conscious violation of the Holy commandment:
Num.15:32 Now while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. And those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation. They put him under guard, because it had not been explained what should be done to him. Then YHWH said to Moses, “The man must surely be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.”
1Jn.5:16 There is sin leading to death (intentionally, willfully and openly). I do not say that he should pray about that.
Hebr.10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. (Is.26:11)
Hebr.10:29 Think how much worse will be the punishment deserved by someone who has trampled underfoot the Son (Yeshua) of YHWH. Who has treated as something common the blood of the covenant which made him holy; and who has insulted the Spirit, giver of YHWH grace! For the One we know is the One who said, “Vengeance is my responsibility; I will repay,” and then said, “YHWH will judge his people” (Deut.32:35-36). It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living YHWH!
Mtt.12:31 Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.
